Yep. locked it with the fob last night. Opened it with the fob this morning and that was the last time it worked. On the first drive I noticed the door ajar light on and then the radio not cutting off when I parked it at work.
Also noticed today that the key in ignition chime and dome lights not working either. My bud at the dealer hooked up to it and says that some of this stuff goes thru the HEC module(cluster) and that it does have a GEM but he couldnt tell me much(he's not that experienced). Idea's? There has to be something in common with all these systems for it to happen all at once. I hate it when something goes wrong with my stuff. I really need a service manual so I guess I'll go bum one tomorrow if I cant find it online.
I did the WD40 thing. No change.
I'm no stranger to electrical issues but with no manual I'm shootin' blind. Luckily the Ford dealer down the street is the same company I work for so gonna pick up a service manual tomorrow and it helps to know the service manager and shop foreman pretty well. I've helped them out on some Nissan stuff so its payback time.
I hope is turns out to be something simple. Those gremlins can be a biotch to trace down. I'm still leaning towards a faulty GEM, but I don't have a clue why.
Im having the exact problem with my truck and it just started about 2 weeks ago. Seems like its coming from the drivers side door. Ill try spraying my latches. One time my locks worked after I switched the door lock switch about ten times the locks finally worked. By the way what is GEM?

I have to agree with Barry I think that it may be GEM issues. My teuck had the GEM replaced when I bought it and the key fobs haven't worked since. I can't even get into programming mode.

Ok guys, its fixed. Cost = $0.
After looking over the service manual and studying the wiring diagrams I really couldnt find a common denominator, I pulled the VSM (vehicle security module) to look for burnt circuits, Small PITA cause you have to pull the lower dash panel, mine is the 650 with all the extra wiring in the way. No signs of damage. I was suprised to see when looking thru the manual that the 02 models use a CAN system (control area network) or serial bus or whatever term the manufacturer uses. Didnt expect to see this on that early of a year model. With the VSM disconnected the other stuff still didnt work. The door open signal goes to the VSM, then it sends that signal out on the CAN system to other modules. The next module that controls all of signals that I was having problems with is the HEC which is the instrument cluster. I took it out to check the circuits and all looked ok. While it was out I hit the key fob just to check and it worked, doors locked and unlocked normal. Plugged the cluster back in and first thing I noticed was the dome lights came on. Stuck the key in ignition and the chime worked, started it up and closed doors, door ajar light goes off. The problem was a loose connector on the instrument cluster that I didnt notice when I pulled it out. Its possible that a wire in the harness was shorted or something and just by moving stuff around fixed it. I didnt have time to go chasing wires so I thru everything back together and its still ok. Just goes to show you that with the new age controller network systems how much stuff can be effected by one single wire. Maybe when we are at RR east I could explain it all a little better if anyone is interested in hearing about how these systems work.
Dude, I have no freaking idea what is going on with your rig, I get the same "door ajar" light on mine, I just slam the damn doors and eventually it goes out...hahaha...I would like to comment on "some other guys avatar"...very nice, my wife won't let me do that to hers...hehehe...
