If the new style cover your referring to is the OEM aluminum one used on the 08's, you would want to torque the bolts to 24 lb-ft (32 Nm).

Yep, the 24 lb-ft spec came directly from the Ford workshop manual for the '08 Super Duty. The 34 lb-ft number (which was dropped to 33 lb-ft starting in '02) is for the OEM steel cover...

Just some additional notes from the WSM...

Apply a continuous bead of silicon sealant (1/8 - 3/16 inch) to the differential cover.

The cover must be installed within 15 minutes of the application of the silicon or you must clean it off and start over.

Wait 1 hour before filling the axle to allow sufficiant time for the silicon to cure.

For limited slip axles... Add 4 oz of friction modifier.

Installed the cover last night. I used Peramatex "The Right Stuff" gasket maker -> http://www.permatex.com/products/mot...sket_Maker.htm and am waiting until today to fill with fluid. I torqued the bolts to 24 lb-ft, which really seemed to be enough. I would not go any tighter. I am filling with Royal Purple gear oil -> http://www.royalpurple.com/gear-oil.html which already contains friction modifier.

One note. I originally thought that my cover was leaking because it was rusted (have read about this issue), but looking at the flange this does not appear to be the case. The factory seal must have just gone bad.
