Looking to replace my rag joint and I noticed I have a very worn flange (?) just north of the joint. Looking at page 101-102 of the LMC catalog it doesn't look like I can order a new one. Where do you think I can find one and what exactly is that part called? Also is this a major deal to tear apart if I need to remove the entire steering column?
Nothing looks worn to me, dirty yes. Is that slime? I just did mine about a month ago. I got a new one at Napa on the HELP rack. It was much easier when I unbolted the master cylinder from the booster and then removed the booster. Now your ready to loosen the four bolts. You will want to loosen the two bolts at the bottom of your dash that is holding the column so you can slide the steering up. Remember to take pics if your not sure. Make note as to where your steering wheel is located so when you bolt the shaft back on your not 180 off. The wire in the pic needs to also be hooked back up, it for grounding out your horn. Hope this helps and isn't to confusing.
I need to get a better photo from a different angle. If you could see the flange there at the top the two slots are very worn out but I'm not seeing any obvious way to remove.
Thanks for the heads up on the wire....might just be why that horn won't work...wondered about that.
Hmmm just found a decent photo...not great but may help.
Those two parts (the tabs and slots) are only there for when the rag joint has failed. If those parts weren't there you wouldn't have anyway to steer the truck. Looks like you have been using those parts to steer the truck for some time. No worry. Just replace the rag joint and you will be good to go.

Ok now that makes sense. I didn't realize that those should be separated and that I'm operating in a fail safe condition.
I will run down to O'Reilly today and get that swapped out.
