Help - 1990 Center Console stuck closed?

Help - 1990 Center Console stuck closed?

The center console is closed and one of the buttons that releases the latch is depressed with no resistence. Its seems that the latch itself and not the button has broke. Just wondering if anyone could guide me on the situation without having to tear up the lid and latch?

i had that happen to mine.. i just said "screw it" and gave it a good jerk.. came open and still works ok...found out that some coke got spilled into the latch, and caused it to stick..
