Just got a 2003 F350 Lariat dually with the 7.3...it's a rebuilt salvage title. It didn't come with the keyless entry fob, so I ordered a Ford OEM one, and it ran through the programming cycle, but the fob didn't operate the locks. The truck has electronic locks...do you suppose it didn't have a keyless entry system to begin with, or that maybe it's just not hooked up?
Also, it came with the trip computer/compass, etc. thing in the roof, but the guy said "they didn't hook it up for some reason" when they rebuilt it. How expensive would it be to have that hooked up again. If it's cheap, I'd have it done, but if it's expensive...forget it!!
If the locks cycled to indicate your in fob programming mode, it should have worked. If the door locks didn't lock and then unlock, then you most likely don't have keyless entry. A VSM that has failed or has the wrong programming will keep the dome lights on and if it's died then the door locks will not work at all.
You'll have to see with the OHC. Pull the headliner down and look for a harness, if it's there plug it in and see what happens. If it's not there, you probably don't have the temp sensor or BCM programming to support the trip computer.
Either way, I would try to get a SPID printed out so you can see what options the truck came with before doing a lot of digging around.
Thanks ReAX...great advice. The locks did cycle to indicate I was in programming mode...but when I pressed the key on the fob, nothing happened, and it doesn't lock or unlock the locks. I did it several times, and still nothing. The locks work by pushing them just fine...it unlocks and locks all of them, etc. That's what's confusing...goes in to programming mode, but fob won't activate...and locks work on their own. I'll check the dome light thing. Any other suggestions?
Great idea on the SPID...I'll check with my local Ford dealer to see the options. Again...thanks for the advice.
