transmissionfluid question
I have a stupid question what type of tranny fluid do I use in a C6 tranny the owner's manual says ford partnumber D7AZ-19582-A,c,d andford specificactionESP-M2C138-CJ

Specification: ESP-M2C138-CJ
Translates to:
Motorcraft Number: XT-2-QDX = Motorcraft Dexron-II Transmission Fluid / Series D.
So originally from the factory, your truck would have used Motorcraft Dexron-II. Be aware that Ford changed the name of their Dexron-II fluid to Mercon in the 80's so they wouldn't have to pay a license anymore for the use of GM's Dexron name.
So any Dexron-II and or Mercon Fluid would work fine, if the transmission is original.
If the transmission was rebuilt, you need to follow the recomendation of the transmission rebuilder.

If you are goingto say put a 4speed in it that would not offend me but it was my grandpa's so I am keeping it as close to original as possible

What's it say on the dipstick? The only fords I work on are my own, but they both use type F (same as FA).

ok, I'll say it. Using type F in virtually any tranny will not wreck it. It will give crisper firmer shifts leading to extended tranny life.
