My four spd tranny is worn out I'd really like to convert it to a c6 I have a 73 f250 4x4. Has the divorced transfercase what all do I need from a donor vehicle other than tranny. Do I need crossmember and transfer case or will the c6 work with my divorced transfer case.
Parts list from donor?
Any modifications or direct bolt in?
Any info and advise would be great thanks guys.
Happy Easter
You will need a c6 with the tailshaft for a 4x4 divorced tcase. It will have a pinion yoke to connect to an intermediate driveshaft (like a 2wd) but will also have mounting holes for the 4x4 shifter mechanism on the side.
You will need the intermediate driveshaft as well.
I would recommend sourcing a c6 from a highboy, will be much simpler IMO.
You will also need to move the crossmember a bit. Not too difficult but removing the rivets can be a PITA if I remember correctly.
Also have to swap your flywheel for a flex plate. Make sure to remove the pilot bushing from the back of the crank when installing your flex plate (rent the puller from your local auto parts store to make it an easy job).
Probably also going to need to swap out your pedal assembly and steering column too. Grab the tranny shift rod and kick down if possible.
That's all I can think of, good luck! I did the same conversion, but only because all the parts I had, including tilt steering column were for c6. Only the tranny itself was a NP435. My truck will be emergency back up vehicle for the wife as well and while she knows how to drive a manual, I think the truck would be a difficult drive for her. I still have the NP435, not sure if I want to sell it or not in case I every get the urge to swap it to manual.
Are you attached to the divorced case for some reason? I would just look for a trans with a married case and get rid of the divorced mess. Might be a little more work but worth it IMO.
I have a 1977 f250 with a 300 straight 6 with a 4 speed 4x4 devorced t and I was wondering if I can take a c6 trans a transfer case from a 96 f250 for it my gf has destroyed 3 clutches now as the truck is my daily driver and I’m tired of replacing clutches
