Don't let the dealership tell you the clutch plate can't be sold seperate from the A/C unit. They'll have to ask their master mechanic what size the bolt is though...

As has been said, a little blue (or even red) LocTite is prudent here.

Just be certain that when you're done that you have SOME air gap left. Just taking out all the shims could leave you with a compressor that spins ALL the time. That wouldn't be good, either, and would do damage. It HAS to be able to cycle both off and on.

Check this--the electrical plug that goes to the ac compresser--on my 2000 f350 with 200,000 miles did the same thing. Inside the plug it was getting a loose conection. I think that I put in a small short wire to take up the gap and then pluged it in and got the AC blowing cold again. I was selling the truck at the time when the ac started acting up. Drove it for another 500 miles without any other problems untill i sold my truck. Note: 2 different shops charged me for new ac compressers installed before I found this problem and fixed it myself.

Thumbs up Update

Well Just wanted to update on the A/C ... I followed what SpringerPop(Marv) said and the A/C is now cold as a well diggers butt. My spacing was about .58 where it shoulda been around .30 and the best I could get with the final result was .28 the clutch engages and disengages perfectly and the wife is happy ( thats the important part) . This only took about 30 mins to do cause I was having a few but anyway it is done. I personally want to thank SpringerPop(Marv) miller_feed(Rick) dcwhipple(Dan) PaysonPSD(Robin) and Crum71(Scott) for all there input and replies. This is the best site around and the knowledge on here is unbelieveable, Once again thanks guys for your help. Marv was good talking to you last nite as well, I will stay in touch. Rick, I owe you one or 2. If anybody can rep these guys for me I been put on hold by the rep police again and gotta spread the love.......
