I have had headman headers and a clifford manifold for over 3 years now or about 60k miles with not leaks so far. The only thing I did extra was to use spary copper on both sides of the gasket and run the engine about 30 -60 minutes let it cool enough so I would not get burned and retighten the mounting bolts. Just make sure that the header mounting flange is true to the head mine was off by about 1/8" and had to use a pipe wrench to straighten it.
It is a spray on copper based product designed to help seal and dissipate heat on exhaust/intake manifolds and gaskets it also works great as a anti seize for your exhaust bolts that have a habit on rusting and getting stuck. I got mine from NAPA auto parts but have seen in other stores too. I believe it is made by permatex usually found near exhaust system parts. I put 2 coats on both sides of the gasket and let it set overnight was still tacky next day when I installed it and have not had any issues.
i soaked the header gasket in water for a short time and used the copper spray on both sides. supposidly soaking em in water works, so i tried it. i also let the engine warm up a few heat cycles and retorque the bolts. no leaks thus far.
