Dual Master Cylinder
Dual Master Cylinder
HI all, I have tried to research this question but never could get a definitive answer. I have a 64 100 with drum brakes. I want to use a dual master cylinder. Does anyone know what will directly bolt up with little modification? It's an occasional driver, however I do make some long trips and would like some extra assurance. I understand and respect the limitations of drum brakes so a disc conversion is not an issue for me. I just want to keep braking if something ruptures..Thanks
Options with no modification - None, nic, nishto, nada.
Modifications you will need to make:
1. Find a 2-pot drum/drum master cylinder. Modify the push rod to fit the dimensions of your '64 cab. Search the posts here for the details; I think a '67 - 72 truck one will work, but you'll still need to adjust the pushrod length.
2. Add a drum/drum proportioning valve, off a '67 - '72 truck with drum/drum brakes.
3. Add brake lines between the master cylinder and the proportioning valve.
4. Add brake lines between the proportioning valve and the front brakes.
5. Add a rear brake line to the proportioning valve, and tie it in to the existing line.
6. You will need to fabricate your lines. Don't forget to double flare them.

Do not use the master cylinder and/or proportioning valve off a 1967, as these parts are 1967 ONLY.
If you ever need to replace one or the other, they may be difficult to find.

I used a 69 mustang big block drum/drum and I did not have to do any modification to the rod and I did not put a proportioning valve but really really need to.
you will also have to rig up a brake light switch which is pretty easy.

Thanks guys for all the info. Can you believe I have overtime at work?! I'm taking advantage of that so I haven't had time to go to any junkyards yet for a prop. valve. I'll get the master cylinder(Mustang at NAPA. I'll let you know how it all works when I get every thing together. If there are any more ideas out there keep them coming.
