After reading the many threads on here discouraging the rebuild of the original master cylinder, I've decided to upgrade to a dual reservoir master cylinder. I want to mount it in the original location. I'll make my own bracket. I don't want disc brakes (at this time), and I'd like to keep it all manual as well. What year and make would be the best master cylinder to use? Obviously I need one that goes to a manual drum brake vehicle. Does it matter if it's a car or truck master cylinder? Do any of them have different mounting patterns (wider or narrower, narrower preferred so I can mount it next to the frame and still align with the brake rod)?
Your brakes are the same as found on F-100's up through the 60's and into the 70's. I would use one from a 67-72 F-100 with manual drum brakes. It should work fine.
A common MC to use is C9AZ-2140-D, this has the 10# residual valves in the MC. This Ford # can be crossed over to your brand. It was used on 67-70 Ford pass. cars with drum brakes. Having the residual valves in the MC itself saves some bucks and real estate as far as plumbing goes. Not sure if the port sizes match the F-100 brake lines, but I think so.
Alright, finally pulled the trigger and ordered the "recommended" master cylinder. Also picked up some 1/4" plate to make the bracket for the master cylinder.
Did you take any pictures of the bracket you had to make? I need to do this too.
Sorry, no, I haven't finished it yet. It's been too hot outside lately to do any kind of metal work. I'll post pics when I do finish...whenever that happens, lol.
