New to the site - just got a beautiful 66 f-250 4x4 and I am looking for a front disk conversion kit for the dana 44 with enclosed knuckles. Also, has anyone had to replace the parking brake cables? I picked up cables and housings from LMC and had my local garage look into installing them. I was told the rear axel (dana 60 I believe) is set up so you cant pull the drums off the end of the axel - therefore hooking up the new cables is impossible without pulling the axel.
Anyone ever have this problem and know of a better way to get it done??
Thanks!
The Dana 60 rear axles on an F250 are super easy to pull. The nuts at the end are removed and then the axle pulls right out. It takes no more than 5 minutes to pull an axle. It sounds to me like this shop you went to doesn't know what they're doing. I would take your pickup somewhere else.
IIRC, the axles don't have to come out to get the drum off, but it's a tight fit. Anyway - I took my axles off before I figured that out and it wasn't a big deal.
Thanks for the reply - the guys at the garage down the street do only a limited amount of repair work, brakes are not something they normally do. Gotta take it to Les Schwab I guess. Any ideas on the disk brake conversion for that style dana 44?
