I will do that Barry, thanks for the help!

I just have to rant for a min......

Just heard back from the company that installed the tranny. Why is it that men talk to woman like we are effing idiots? I was telling him what I have found out so far and what I have done to the truck and he proceeds to try to tell me how to maintain my truck and that I need to change the oil every 3k miles. I told him I am running syn and that I change it every 7-8k and he said that's not good and how I need to be careful with a high milage truck. He also told me the procedure I used to flush the tranny fluid last year wasn't good enough and I need to bring it in and have it done the right way. I know more about this damn truck than 99% of the people I know (not including you guys, I am just a baby on here). Why is it so hard to believe some chick might know just a little bit about these trucks and not just sit around polishing her toe nails all day.

Sorry, that azzhole has me worked up right now. There is nothing I hate more than being treated like some dumb chick.

Wish I could have heard that conversation. And besides, who's got a high mileage truck?

Because they can? Years ago, I was in the hospital for surgery on a broken leg. I told the RN that it was hurting and I would need more pain meds. She told me some fancy sounding story with the ending that it would be bad for me to have it inside of 4-6 hrs from now. I told her that the wife was an RN and she should leave my chart out there and the wife would explain it to me. Inside of half an hour, I got my pain meds. You see, the wife was a RN STUDENT on her last semester. Also, I was told that they didn't want to recount the narcotics so they tried to fob me off till the next shift. I bluffed and they didn't call. Bottom line is people try to fool you when they can. My wife complained that her computer was running slow. They told her it was a "global issue", whatever that means. Unfortunately for them, I used to be in IT so I went and installed some RAM for her and it made things wonderful. Her colleagues also got the same run around. They are all Nurse Practitioners. IOW, they hold Masters of Science in Nursing degrees. Yet they get the run around. Why? Because someone knows more than they do about that particular subject and they can. IOW, par for the course. There is a reason why my wife only gets to pick up the car. She does NOT talk to the service people, she does not pay them. Pick up the keys, start car and go. Any questions, refer them to me. When we go to the doctor, I need them to rubber stamp the treatment plan the wife and I come up with. Any comments of questions, they talk to her, not me. She agrees, I rubber stamp it.

I think there they are trying to talk you into services. A Ford dealership told me that they LOSE $3 per oil change. Their job is to "upsell". IOW talk you into more services. One of the quick lube places has a target of $76 of upsell.

I love my 6 speed, but if you already have an auto, might as well just get a BTS and never have to worry about it again. Probably cheaper to drop one of those in than trying to convert over.

That's what I'm thinking Chris.

I have been shot down on a BTS road trip though. Troy said he isn't road tripping for a tranny. I told him he didn't have to go but he just laughed. haha. I am still hoping it is something simple but if I need one it looks like a JW or one from the stealership.

BTS has dealers or he can ship one to you. If you plan to keep the truck, I wouldn't use a dealership reman.

A 6 speed or a really really good, they dare you to brake it kind of rebuild is the only way to
go. It would be great if a 4R100 to Torqueshift mod was doable, but I have been told they are not.I am looking for a parts truck with a 6 speed for mine, I can not afford a good rebuild and do not want a cheap reman.I would rather have a Stick anyway

It seems to me that the prudent thing to do here is send a sample of your suspect tranny fluid off to someone like Blackstone, while mentioning your "gritty" concerns.

Everything else seems like speculation.

Best idea I've heard yet. Get a sample to Blackstone and see what comes of it. BUT, you have pull the plug to get a sample unless you have one of the fancy sample pumps that slips down the dipstick tube (wow -- that sounded a little suggestive!!). ANYWAY... The other option is to just pull a sample as the pan drains and refill the pan with some fresh stuff while you wait for the answer back form BS. Takes about a week for them to get you your report back.

About the filter -- O'Reilly sold me the wrong one too. Told them I have a 2WD, and they sold me a 2WD filter. Turns out our 2WD trucks have a 4WD pan (deeper) and need the longer pickup on the filter. 2WD is about 3/4", 4WD is about 2". So anyone getting a filter make sure you have the longer pickup on it. Since you TOLD them you have a 4WD, not sure how they screwed the pooch on that one.

I'm sure you would find a few road tripping buddies around here...

I just saw this thread, been busy with work stuff and life stuff. That sux, Cris. I'm sure JW will fix you up nicely if you have to go that route. And I absolutely hate repair places that talk to women as if they don't have a freakin' clue about trucks or cars.

Cool. I don't even have to dial the 1-900 numbers to get someone to talk dirty to me. Too bad it is from a male or it might be fun Seriously, you can insert a tube into the dipstick and use a turkey baster and apply vacuum and suck it out. Ooooohhhhh That sounds good. Just drive the truck around to get her hot before you do it. It mixes the fluid so you don't get just the sediment or only the top later after it has settled down.

Just go to the Ford dealership and give them your VIN and get the stock filter. I wouldn't bother with other brand filters if I want to do diagnostics like this. You don't want to screw it up should that filter give way.

Oooohhh I am loving all the dirty talk! Keep it up boys!

So do I need to wait until Blackstone sends me a test kit to change the fluid or can I do it now and just save a little of it to send in?

Thanks for the Blackstone idea Marv!
