Iv'e been looking for a reversing aid since this beast isn't the easiest thing to parallel park, which I have to do often. :-(
I've seen many but haven' really found any that I like. I saw today that it came as an option on the 03 expiditions and was wondering if anyone could tell me if I could have a dealer install one on my 99 xlt.
thanks
I've seen kits for sale at Pep-boys and Auto Zone. They look like they are high quailty. You can also special order them in any color so they blend into your bumper!! They are between $175-$250.
I'm not sure of exact years but I know Ford offered this system on the last generation of Expeditions and Navigators. Would think you could retrofit it to yours.
a reversing aid will tell you via beeps or a digital display how far you are from backing up into another car or anything else like a child. It uses anywhere from 1 to 3 sensors on the rear. I ordered one yesterday and when I get it and install it, I'll tell you guys how it worked out, only cost me $89.
well, I have installed it a few days ago and am very pleased with it. I am yet to take pictures because my digital camera is out of batteries. the system really works great though. I have tested it by backing up to numerous cars, my own cars at first of course, and I can get in within just a few inches without a problem at all. the install was very very easy and is well hidden. I was woried about the sensors getting easily damaged but I have since taken it though an auto car wash and also hit them with the power washer and they don't move at all. the beeping gets a little annoying sometimes but you can disable it as I plan to. I would strongly suggest this to anyone who has to parallel park alot or backs up blindly. Great tool. I will post pics as soon as I get some batteries!
I got it from 12voltshop.com it is called the
Wireless Backup Alert (BAT-2W), the only thing of it that is really wireless, is you don't have to run wires all the way up the truck to the digital display. which worked out very well. It costs $90 and got here right on time. I was nervous buying something from these guys because I haven't ever heard of them before but it turned out very well. let me know if you have any more questions. It actually ships from Canada, by the way.
