Ok, was going to put an aftermarket Brake controller in my friends 05 King Ranch 250,,, got looking and saw the wires there for the factory TBC, called Ford, parts guy said I need to buy the kit which has a new master cyl?!?!?! Is the integrated TBC (ford term) more than just a plug-in?! Do I in fact have to change the M/C, AND,,,,, has anyone done this?!
Yes, you must change out the brake master cylinder. It has a pressure transducer in the bottom. You also must have a Ford dealership program the truck PCM to recognize the presence of the controller. It has been done, and if you search here deep enough you will find info. But bottom line is, it can be done, cost will be $400-$600.
The factory TBC is nice, but having used both a Tekonsha Prodigy and the Ford TBC, I would just install a Prodigy for $100 and be done with it.
