I don't bother with my fuel filters until they give a a problem because they are not going to instantly strand you. Engine noises are hard to diagnose sometimes unless you work with a certain brand every day. I would go to a Ford mechanic and pick his brain a little.

The noises you are describing are probably pinging. Replace the air filter, clean the MAF, and use the octane recommended in the owners manual. If your octane is too low, the fuel tends to ignite too soon, creating a pinging or knocking sound. Also if your engine is getting too hot or leans out, it will ping.

Pinging is more prevalent under a load so maybe that will help.

Ok...I think it is the pinging.....I noticed it more while pulling a trailer the other day....I changed out the air filter and I am using 87 octane which is what is reccomended...and I am still hearing it any ideas....

Check your timing and spark plug heat range. It could be running too lean. You could do a smog check.

Put some premium in it to see if it knocks it out.

you can probably get some octane booster to dump in there with a full tank of 87. Might be a lot cheaper than buying the good stuff.

No change in the motor, still the same one as the 06/07

Don't bother with the octane booster, the stuff really doesn't work. If they claim that they will raise the octane of 10 gallons of gasoline 5 points what they really are saying is 10 gallons of 87 octane fuel will become 10 gallons of 87.5 octane fuel.

just take your truck (it is under warranty, right?) and have a dealership check it out.

maybe even run some Sea Foam thru a tank and see it that helps? I run a bottle of that thru every 10 tanks or so.
