Remote Start

My new 04 6.0L has a remote starter. Is there a way to tell if this is factory or an aftermarket item. I am just trying to figure out how it works. So far If I hit the button with the picture of a key, I hear a noise, then when I hit the door unlock button, it starts. Any ideas? Thanks

Typically remote starts require 2 taps on the start button on the remote within a few seconds of each other - this prevents mis-starts. On your 6.0, it should have a timer setting so the glow plug light can go off before starting the engine. If it doesn't, I wouldn't use it. Mine is a Viper, it works that way. There's a control box for the unit somewhere, typically under the main dash panel.

I haven't seen the double tap on a RS remote. It's done when you have priority door locks and I've heard of it on addon RS modules to keyless entry modules.

It's aftermarket regardless. Ford buys a system (it used to be made by code alarm) and the dealers put them on for the customer. All of the systems I've messed with liked the doors to be locked for the rs to start.

Post a picture of the remote, some times they are easy to tell.

Well I just looked under the dash and saw the unit. It says Ford Remote Start System with deluxe keyless entry. It shows part number 2W7J-19G367-AA. Does anybody have any info on this unit? I would like to get an additional remote and I know I will have to program it. Thanks

It looks like it was made by powercode or code?

Power code by code systems I think.

Here's the install book http://www.gemsen.com/Ford/Pdf/02_06..._(8-29-05).pdf

I have a clifford alarm, pager, remote start system on my X. It requires a double tap of the start button. It will wait until the glow plug light goes off, then starts the truck. Great system! About $650.00 installed at the local custom steroe shop.

This is the second cliford I have owned, and would defenitley buy another one!

Great! thank you all for the help. I think I have it figured out. If I hold down for a second, the glow plugs come on, then it cranks and starts after about 30 seconds. it works great. thank all of you.
