Will an early 90s 5.0 e7 heads bolt onto my 76 5.0 without any other upgrades? If so how much will this help until I can follow up with cam and such. Thanks

Yes they will, but how much if any improvement they provide will depend what heads were on the motor to begin with.

Its all stock now and these were smog engines so I figured e7s would help it a good bit. Just making sure i wouldnt screw anything up by putting them on alone.

'76 was a transition year so you may or may not have smog heads on the motor, the casting number would tell the tale. If you don't have smog heads then the E7's would actually drop compression.

That would be the block casting number, the head casting number is on the head gasket side near the center intake ports, so you need to at least have the intake off to see it.

I found a set with port work done on the exhaust side for 40 bucks. This truck is a daily driver so I figured I could just buy them before I even pulled my covers off. With the port work would they improve the engine more than my stock heads if they are pre-smog?

I think you'ld know if you had a smog motor or not they were beyond gutless, couldn't chirp a tire in the wet type of pathetic, If you have a pre-smog motor the truck should scoot along rather nicely and feel pretty peppy. Swapping from pre-smog heads to E7's your compression ratio will drop so you'll lose power, valve sizes are the same for both so the ports flow about the same. The other BIG limiting factor with the smog motors was the cam, and better heads won't make a hugh difference until that sad little bumpstick is replaced.

Well she runs pretty good peppy in 1st and second its third that kills me. From 40 to 60 I could eat a sandwich its horrible. I was thinking heads mights help that. Any advice thats not too expensive? Engine only has 80,000 on it so I dont really feel the need for a rebuild. Maybe find my fix somewhere besides the engine?
