I just picked up an Alpine 9887 head unit, and a 2 sets of pioneer 6 x 8s, model number TS-A6872R, I will post a link to these so you can see the specs, I picked them up from bestbuy. Here is the link. Pioneer - 6" x 8" 3-Way Car Speakers (Pair) - TS-A6872R
Now I love Alpine head units, the problem is it is too complicated for me.
In my old truck I had pretty much the same set up I am going to be running in this one, alpine head unit, pioneer doors, and Rockford Fosgate 12.
I used to work with a guy who did sound for alot of different shows, and he would sit down in my truck and play with the time correction, eq, and crossover and make it sound unreal. Unfortunatly I no longer work with him and I am in need of some help here.
First off, can someone explain to me what a 3 way speaker is, and how that would translate to my head unit in the "band" settings. I know the lower the hz the lower the sound, as in bass. I am just having a hard time getting the sound right. My highs are not very crisp and the mids are pretty muddy right now.
If anyone can send me a link, maybe understanding audio for dummies or a quick explanation I would appreciate it.
The time correction I get, measure said distance, plug in the formula and you have the right time correction.
Alpine sells "imprint" technology that is a disk you can buy to do all this but it is 250 bucks, and from what I hear it likes to cut alot of the bass out of the system and alot people are not happy with the purchase.
3 way speakers are three speakers in one package. Meaning they have a woofer(mid-range), medium tweeter and high tweeter (I guess those would be the easy way to say it.) They should play from the tripple digit Hz up to high audible kHz (something to the effect of 100hz-20kHz(20,000Hz).
There is a page I think it's BCAE1 that covers from basic to fairly advanced. Sound travels at 1130fps. The idea with adjusting the timing is to remove the 0.002 second difference between the speakers (rough number Distance/1130 is the figure.)
EQ is a pain to set by ear and have it great for everything.
Thanks for the explanation on the 3 way speakers, I went ahead and ordered the Imprint thing from crutchfield, you can actually rent it, buy it for 225.00 then return it and they credit back everything but 50 dollars. Some people have said it is amazing how it works, others have said it cuts out alot of the bass. I have also read that there are 3 different settings and you can get the bass back up with using one of these settings. Pretty neat piece of work actually, if you don't know anything thing about it you should check it out.
My sub and amp arrived in the mail today, now I am just waiting on my box and the imprint cd to show up.
I will let you know how it turns out, hopefully it will be rockin.
hopefully it's some kind RTA software update and pink noise setup. The idea with pink noise is to produce all frequencies at an equal amplitude. Then you put the microphone in where your head will be, and make the EQ change the sound so it's even.
I suspect when your done setting it up, you should write down each frequencies gain, then you can increase the gain on the low freqs to your desire. The software will probably make the gain in (-)dB, so you can adjust them up to 0dB without changing it too much.
Yeah it uses some kind of microphone, though it measure all areas of the vehicle sitting areas and not just where the microphone is. I guess this is the new thing than just time correcting for one seat.
Here is a quick link that tells a little about it. We will see how well it works when it arrives.
