Im planning on installing a brand new alpine cda-9857 head unit and a pair of pioneer ts-a1681r speakers inside the door. Im looking for some tips to running a constant wire for the head unit and also for installing the speaker inside the door. I really want it to sound good inside the truck. Any suggestions would be apprechiated. Thanks!!!
SVT, Welcome to FTE The best truck show on the net.
There are members here that hate to see anyone cutting up the ol trucks. Problem is there just isn't any room for a system because the cabs are so small. A box console on the hump and under the dash can built to house everything.
Watch what speakers that you use in the doors, it can be a bit of a wet place to put speakers, water will run down the inside of the door from the windows.
What i need to know though is if there is a way to run a memory line i.e (yellow wire) to some accessory in the truck or if I need to altogether run a new wire to the battery.
Just find a live wire on the back of the fuse box, and run to your radio. I found a plug to the left of what was left of the stock radio behind the dash, don't know what it was supposed to be for but works perfect for a mem line. If you don't have one you need to get a good Test Light, that way it takes the guess work out of finding live wire.
if you go with the door speakers, buy some marine speakers (boat). They will take some water, and dont slam your doors too hard. I also used undercoater on the inside of the doors to insulate and soak up some vibrations. I also used a piece of plastic milk jug cut up to cover top of speakers to ward off water running into door from up top. They have been in there several yrs, and still sound good. One of these days I am going to build a console box that will also house a woofer and amp. I have bucket seats, so have about 12" of room between them. There is also under seat speaker boxes you can buy, or build.
I buddy of mine put his speakers in the door but he bought some boots from crutch field that goes in the hole for the speaker so it stays dry and helps keep the sound from rattling the doors
Is this truck 2 or 4wd? If it is a 4x4 and you like to cross deep water then you don't want to put the speakers in the doors. I am considering building a custom fiberglass headliner for mine.
There is also an after market up grade to the speaker in the dash. It is a 6X9 with a lot more watt capability, but wont be stereo. Red hawk, do you need a romper load for that .44? i have a recipe for one called the 10.9mm Ruger Mag.
i havent tryed it yet but ive seen sugestions on useing i belive a in dash kit from a volvo upside down do a search and it should show up .. also i dont know about the room issues but smoeone hacked up my doors and i hate it it seemed like thay could have put them in the door panel insert insted of hacking up the door ..in my older dodge i had a lot of im gonna call it dead sound a drone if you will becuse of no sound insulating it really bumed me out cuz i put a lot of time into it and had poor sound quality.. hope it helped .... russ
