I have been looking around at the local stores and I am un able to find a "Y" connector for the video cable.
my scenerio is a Kenwood KVT-512 system. RCA cords are female from the unit. I purchased (2) headrest monitors also that have female RCA cords. I am wanting to just split the stereo units cords with "y" splitters. Red, White, and Yellow. When I go to the stores all they have is a red male splitting into a white/red female.
1) Do they make a red that splits off into two red females so I can hook up the male RCA's
2) same question but for white.
3) Do they make a yellow video that splits of into two yellow females. couldn't find them in the stores.
limited electronic skills, but I have managed to hook up everything else without any problems.
Yes they make splitters with varying ends, but they aren't the easiest to find exactly how you want them. The trick is to look at how your connecting everything.
You have Female at all of the components because your going to have a RCA cable between them. The way I would go about it is, run a 6-9' RCA from the head unit to right between the rear seats. I would get a M-M union and put a 1 male to 2 female splitter, then 3-6' RCAs from the splitter up to the monitor on each side.
This would require a pretty common splitter and fewer RCA cables. However, if you used the 1m/2f splitter at the headunit, it would give you two female connectors at the headunit and you can run a cable from each connector to each monitor. This will use less components and will probably look better longer.
If you split your video signal your going to have signal loss with each split. In other words the "Y" cable will only provide 50 % of the video level on each leg. You may notice degrading of the pix.
I picked up a video/audio distribution amp at "The Source" for about $40. Works great. Cleans up the picture and is compatible with HDMI as well. I think "Radio Shack" sells the same thing.
thanks, I have done some more research. I was looking at the audio video source amplifier on ebay. It didnt have the hdmi hook up. I might continue my search.
