internet access options?

I am thinking about canceling my land line which would mean I would also have to cancel my dsl internet. where can I find out what my options for internet service are? between dsl and phone,I am paying $78 a month which is way too much considering the only people that call the land line are telelmarketers. thanks for any ideas!!

$78 for DSL and Phone sounds alright to me..

The internet either DSL or Broadband usually runs from $42 - $60 depending if you have other services..

So you phone is running around $25..

Who is your cable TV provider??

I have Comcast and the Internet is $42 as long as you have either TV or Phone with them..

The only real way to save is go back to dialup...

I have satellite tv,so that option is out because cable by itself is outrageous . I would like to get rid of the phone, but am not going to get cable internet because it is expensive without cable tv.

What about Cellular Broadband??

I believe it's around $60 but you can use it anywhere your cellphone works... Best if you have a laptop.. Kind of a waist if all you have is a desktop..

I'm using Verizon wireless broadband, and it's not bad. There are a few other services depending on where you are, like Clearwire, and a couple different satellite services.

If you have Dish Network, I believe they offer internet. Not sure about DirecTV but they probably do as well. Then there is Hughes Net.

I think Hughes Net is pricey, though I have not checked into it. Dish/DirecTV may be pricey as well.

I used to have cable internet but it was too expensive so i switched to Embarq DSL.
I had to sign up for phone and internet but after two months I was able to cancel the
phone service and now i pay $34 a month for high speed.

As for finding what is available in your area you can just go to the company's web sites and look it up.
though if your address is listed as not available then you should call because embarq had my street name in there computer wrong so it wouldn't let them sign me up for DSL until they fixed it.

You do not have to cancel your DSL to get rid of your phone line. What you want is called a "dry loop". Your copper is still there, but there is no dial tone and no phone number assigned.

It's sometimes difficult to get setup, but if you use the term I gave you above, it is entirely doable. It's actually much easier to get done when you already have DSL and voice, and you just want to cancel the voice.

I have actually been pondering the same question. We barely use our landline. I have Direct Tv. They teamed up with Verizon and if you put your direct tv bill on the verizon bill you can save some money that way (Only if you have phone and DSL thu verizon) Direct Tv Sat access is Hughes Net and its expensive. I would only use this if I was way out in the wilderness. My brother has the combo package from Comcast (Internet, cable and phone) But I dont care for them.

Some areas have a microwave link availiable, satelite is more expensive then you have, you can use your cell phone if you have unlimited minutes. And of course there are the cable companies.

AT&T. I might try to just get dsl through them. I see now where they are offering different packages, and one of them is internet for $25 a month and phone for $35 a month,$60 is better than $78,but not much
