I have a 2000 f150 4.2/5spd. Sometimes the transmission grinds or scrapes when going into third gear. It only does this going from 2nd to third. I have paid careful attention to make sure the clutch is fully depressed before shifting. Has anyone else had this problem? Is this a synchronizer problem? Have any TSB's been issued?
How many miles on this truck?
Can you (after the truck is warmed up) being stopped at a light
or in your driveway with eng .running go from first to reverse without grinding or the trans won't let you do it.this means the input shaft is
still spinning and your clucth is worn.also chk with the eng running and clutch depressed if you can go through all your gears without binding or grinding. I don't think other than the zf6 speed that there were any problems!

I had the same truck and the same problem. It seems to be a design flaw/fact about this trans. It only grinds in third and only occasionally. I remedied it by just shifting SLOWLY from 2nd to 3rd. If you try to snap it in it will almost always grind.

The 5 speed in my 91 F150 would grind going into first. I could pull back slightly on the stick and then put it into first with no problem. I thought it was a syncro but it turned out to be a shift fork problem. Sometimes when I am going into third it seems as though it grinds just a bit as it goes in and I am wondering if the shift fork is responsible for this too. I can't imagine that this would be your problem with a 2000 but this was my experience.
