EGR Trouble codes!

New to the board and I've got an '04 F-250 6.0 PSD with door sticker production date of 06/04. This being the case I'm assuming the engine build date will probably put me into the throttle plate category as far as the EGR goes... Seems easy enough to get to if I go the "remove" route.
About a month ago the cold morning starts got fairly hard. The rig needs to be serviced and I attributed the hard morning starts to my laziness with the service visit. A few days ago the CEL came on and has stayed on. Yesterday my buddy hooked up his reader and we read codes P0404 and 1335 (both EGR related). Also the responsiveness in the bottom end when I mash on the throttle seems to be down quite a bit.
I've spooled myself up with the EGR threads as best I can and am wondering a couple of things...
1) If the EGR is gummed up (which I'm certain it is) will unplugging it fix my problem? Not sure if it is frozen in an open position or not. If it is I would assume unplugging it at this point will do nothing for me sooo...
2) Should I pull and clean or replace EGR, see if the codes can clear and CEL goes out then unplug?
Truck has run great and I couldn't be happier with it. I just want to get the stock power back out of it and not worry when I've got the family on board and towing my "baby" (1969 Ford Bronco
)... I am very mechanically inclined with all my own tools but have very limited diesel experience and hopefully will get some good diagnosis of my problem here without having to pay a dealer $500 to tell me something simple! Thanks in advance of any help ya'll can give!

Check the coolant bottle for whitle spotting..known as "puking"
If you have that going on more then likely the EGR cooler has gone bad and is leaking into the exhaust/cylinders.
Ford covers it under the 5yr/100k mileage warranty $100 deductable warranty.
Dedpending on your mileage and how long you plan on keeping the truck consider doing a FULL EGR delete if you dont have worry about emission testing. I just did one on my truck 2 weeks ago after it spent a week in the shop having them parts replaced. The truck has a lot more power and the EGTs are way cooler..and the turbo likes that.
I installed River City Diesel's EGR delet kit. You can call over there and talk to them about it..they will answer every question you have.

I was just looking at the delete kits and definately think one is in my future as I plan on driving this rig till it falls apart! Hopefully that'll be awhile...
No warranty coverage as I'm at about 112K on the odometer and I'm also the 2nd owner as of about 1.5 years ago...
