So I need some advice. I just got my turbo replaced in my '03 6.0 F350, and a week later the check engine light comes on. I assume it's related to the work that the Ford Dealership had just done. So, I bring it in, and sure enough it's a faulty EGR plug.
So, from browsing on here, I know alot of you guys like to just unplug it, and it sounds like that's the best option for my engine anyhow. They quoted my 600+ dollars to fix this...now why would I do that when I can just yank the plug?!?!
Anyhow, I unplugged the EGR, but the weather got the best of me and it started pouring. I was unable to check if I have a throttle plate, but I assume that I do, as the built date is May 03. Is it a problem to unplug the EGR and leave the throttle plate on for the time being? Or should I plug the EGR back in until I can take care of this.
As an aside, the check engine light went off on its own, before I was able to get the truck to the shop.
Thanks!

You might not have a throttle plate. I thought my Feb 03 engine build would have one for sure, removed the elbow and no plate.
duallygirl: My 01/29/03 built F250 also didn't have a throttle plate when I removed the elbow. Also your emission system is covered by a warranty, 8 years/ 80K miles. An egr can't work without a plug so I would insist that it's covered. The egr should be covered by the 5yr/100K engine warranty but if your passed 3 year/ 36K miles you will have to pay a $100 deductable. I would also find another dealer. $600+ is highway robbery.
I am going to switch dealers. I called one today, more of a truck oriented dealership and they said it was definately under warranty. $600 is highway robbery.... I told the technician that, and he said the EGR alone was $360 some odd dollars. I was given a phone number to call and report the dealer that wanted to charge me. I suppose that is the next step. Thanks, guys....
