Yeah. i'm up in Monroe county PA. We have no emmisions testing , But i still run "Cat" on what is suppose to have one. The only thing that does not have on is my 80 F350 which has the NON-CATALIST sticker on the rad support(man it was hard finding that rad support LOL)
haha,,thanks Chad. But im positive i have an F150. All the shops were trying to tell my that around 77.5 they they started putting Cats on, then leading me to believe that mine were taken off by the original owner(my grandpa). Now that we have this completley sorted out, if they try to tell me different, I'll have to start beatin some ***
Nope. EPA raised the requirements for the 1979 model year. So every '79 F150 has the full emissions package.
49-state 1977/78 F150s didn't come with cats. CA vehicles do.
Even my '78 F150 sold new in Florida has no cat. No evap emissions, either.
Thing that makes me mad is that there is no emission inspectioning in nebraska, but all the shops claim i HAVE to have a Cat. Anyway i could fake my truck as a non catalyst? Any stickers or anything? The vavle cover has a sticker on it that says emissions controlled, i wonder if i went to the junkyard and found a sticker that wasnt emission controlled then slapped it on.
Man, that's rediculus having to go through that much trouble just to get an exhaust installed on an old truck.
I took my PU downtown this morning and had duels run from the headers back behind the wheels and 2 hours later I'm on the road. You can imagine had loud it was driving there with uncapped headers and the looks I got setting next to people at the lights.
But to the original poster, you would not need cats if it is a 77. Unless you got that truck from Johnny Cash were it was a part from every year he worked there.
nice! it still has that manifold gurgle to it, which is ok. mine doesnt have that b/c mine's been idling high. i kinda miss the low, gurgly idle on mine.
It is illegal not to put cats on your truck. That being said, if you ask questions, you will get a CYA answer. Do you have any indian reservations nearby? There's a fair chance, if you hint at your desire and don't fuss about assurances, that you might get what you want. You'll probably have a better chance on an Indian Reservation (sovereign laws), or a rural area that doesn't have stringent vehicle inspections. I went around and around years ago with my 76 F100. It originally had an catalyst I6. So therefore forever after it must have the pollution control that originally came on it. This seemed silly considering that the Big blocks in 76 often weren't catalyst motors. I did an engine swap and had your same dilemma. It worked itself out fine, nobody made any promises. I was told by an exhaust shop that if the gas gauge says "unleaded gas only" and the fuel filler has the unleaded gas restrictor plate and sticker (unleaded gas only) that your truck is identified as a Catalyst motor. Even if you change all that to erase the evidence, your VIN will give you away. My advise, go to a rural area, Canada, Mexico, a Sovereign Indian nation, and don't expect assurances. If you end up with Cats, you can solve that problem later. There are serious fines associated with ignoring federal/state emissions laws.

thanks for the info and all but if you had read previous posts you would realize this issue has been resolved.
