Have an 06 with 8500 miles. I put a 5 in cat back exhaust on it. I love the sound of the trucks on youtube with the cat off so i want to know if anyone has caught flack from a dealership for removing the cat. I called my local one and they said anything from the cat back is ok, but messing with that would get you in trouble. anyone have any stories

we ussually will not say much if it is a normal repair we see on stock trucks. but if you start coming in every other week w/ bad injectors or turbos or head gaskets leaking then we will have to look at a non-oem root cause.... I love aftermarket performance.. but if ford kicks out a duplicate warranty claim we have no choice but to tell them you have a tuner or whatever you put on it... a cat back will not cause any issues.. unless it is a 6.4l!!!! but lifts and ball joint warranties is a different story.. I wouls not delete the cat on a truck under 100K because it puts the dealer in a "TAMPERIN W/ FEDERAL EMMMISSIONS" liability situation...see what I mean.. my stae has a $10,000 fine for tampering w/ emission equipment.. or course they would have to catch then meow box first but it is stated in our inspection book...
Well, removal of catcon is federal law which trumps any state or local laws. It's also unethical to remove it. Aside from that when it comes to warranty they may not say anything about it ever or wait until it benefits them. Potential loss of warranty and risk of getting caught by feds is more than I'd gamble for exhaust sound. I believe first offense for removal of cat is like $5k.
I would leave it on, but then again, I'm conservative about the warranty since I lost the warranty on my last powerstroke. That alone cost me big money when 2 injectors went bad along with some other stuff before the 100k miles were up. I truly think my last powerstroke lost low-end power when I deleted the cat after I'd previously gone with a cat-back exhaust. I personally think the cat=back is the way to go and my dealership agrees!!
