Re-Installing Turbo

Ok, got turbo removed, WW installed now having issues realigning the UPPipes and back of turbo. Any helpful suggestions as there is very limited space to get the clamp on and line it up. I figure once this is done it should be straight forward to push the turbo down to the pedistal and align the exhaust flanges and clamp it.

Thanks all upfront, I feel like I have gone a round with a boxer.

Did you have the upipes off, or just the clamp at the collector?

Just the clamp at the collector, this one step is a PITA.

Thx

Keep the turbo loose on the pedestal, and you just have to monkey around with it until you get the little bump on the collector in the right place. It will go, you just have to keep wiggling it. Then tighten the V-clamp there, and tighten the turbo bolts last

Sometimes loosening the bolts at the exhaust manifolds will help. Pick up on the front of the turbo to get the dowel and collector aligned, then push the turbo back and down over the dowel tube on the pedestal. This has worked for me.

It also helps to have someone help with this. It can be a PITA, but like said, don't get frustrated, just keep playing with it.

An extra pair of hands are nice. If not available, a bungee cord can be your "friend".

I've always found it's easier if I bolt the turbo down first, then line up and tighten the up-pipe collector next.

I just left the bolts where the uppies mount to exhaust manifolds so loose they were all but off. Then aligned collector to back of turbo and held it in place with a bungee until I got the clamp on. Then went back and tightened bolts at the exhuast manifolds.

Thanks all, everything bolted back up and first turn let it idle a good 3-4min and puddle of oil.....let everything cool off and unbolt again all the way down to the dang pedistal, apparently did not torque the back right bolt enough it allowed oil to seep past and run down the tranny, manifold is dry. Undo everything this time in 25min and get 17yr son on top of motor, clean everything again and this time double check 18ft/lbs torque on all 4 pedistal bolts (according to Benson Ford out this neck of the woods) This time everything lines up and we are firing up again no leaks!!

Thanks Robin for the picture, thanks to everyone else for encourgement and other ideas. WW sounds great and no wait to spool either. Just need to deal with the smell of burning oil for another day or two off the back of the tranny. I will do the CCV Mod Saturday since I am too tired today, but I figure 3 days of driving 50miles per day should not hurt too bad. I did do the Zoodad, not as extreme as Robin but I have a nice Diamond pattern of 3/8 holes drilled through so as to keep out birds as I did pull out 2 from behind the grill.

Pedistal bolts will work at 18 lb/ft, but the two turbo mounting bolts work better at 35 lb/ft. Ford specifies 18 lb/ft for all of them, but Garrett specifies 35 lb/ft for the turbo bolts.

I've found that if I follow the Ford spec for the turbo bolts, the pedistal o-rings always end up leaking.
