I havent seen any of those here in Utah its just a citizen report thing here I called the place and they sent someone out to check my truck all out to see if its legal which is rediculous but all is well and she passed their test
Since I'm Canadian I'm kinda stunned that you guys to the south have these hotlines. I think that is such a pile of crap. Some pencil d_cked bureaucrat has decided to target a very small percentage of the population who drive diesel pickups, in hopes that they are helping to clean up the air. It's probably even a smaller percentage of the population who have a chipped truck and an even smaller bit that is running a tune that produces smoke. Personally I live in diesel pickup rich Edmonton. We're in the middle of oil rich Alberta and on a daily basis I see more old poorly maintained cars puking out blue smoke every time they hit the pedal, than diesel trucks puking smoke. Most of the people I've seen with built up trucks take care of them and are very well maintained because they've invested a ton of cash into them.
So how come the guy who drives the 87 honda that's pumping blue smoke out at every intersection because he hasn't changed the oil....ever... doesn't get the stupid notice from the air quality *****. One lives around the corner from my house.
What makes me pipe up on this subject is two things. One...Lots of things in the US tend to eventually happen here and two...I'm gettin pretty sick of the whole stupid Al gore kyoto thing. I guess the whole idea of some stinky truck hotline just generally P's me off.
Ok....Friday rant over... going to have another beer.
I got one of those "warnings" here in Texas for "excessive smoke". However, it said if it's a diesel vehicle, then it can't smoke for more than 10 seconds after taking off. So I scanned it in and kept it as a souvenir.
My turbo does take a little time to spool, but once it lights, the smoke is cleaned up. So to whoever it was that said something about giving diesels a bad name, the black stuff is particulate and settles -- it's just a function of making power and getting the turbo to spool. I had two chebby guys in a week start crap with me first, so I let 'em have it. One was a D-max, the other was a gasser. Neither of them saw anything but my tailgate and soot cloud.

my one buddy has a 05 Cummins with the Bully Dog chip and the other a D-max with Banks. both have 8 in. tips and with the tuners up and hammering on it, both will puke like crazy but not for long. i am just glad that we dont have that emissions crap here in Iowa. My diesel however, doesn't smoke that much unless i short shift it.
not saying this is you.......but it doesn't surprise me one little bit.
I have seen folks post on here wanting tunes that make smoke.
I have seen folks on here bragg about pouring soot out the pipe while passing pedestrians, or into someones car windows in traffic these folks have ruined it for the rest.
I will do it if called for....
like the doofus with the windows down at the red light and his stereo with more power than his engine blaring his ethnic crap loud enough where we can't hear each other with our windows up !!!
but my tune only does it when I put it in third and push it hard so the fuel mix is much more than the air intake..
I like the tune that does not overfuel, but uses it most effeciently to get the power !!!
and re the air checks, the only place I have seen them here in dfw is the north bound ramp from 360 to 183...
and they have killed the grass there they are there so much !!! But I rarely go thru there any more so...
Maybe they are after the poorer section more than the ritzy ditzy section....
RT charger, kept trying to race me in my 8430# truck, actually started bothering my wife, Yeah, I smoked him.
Next one I "smoked", A dodge Neon, guy was sitting at the light, as I was pulling up, he threw, what appeared to be, shredded paper out of his window.. I Smoked him..
People I am looking forward to "smoking".. Little punks with the base so loud, my truck shakes.. It wouldn't be so bad if I at least knew there was music in there somewhere, but all I hear is "VRRRPP,VRRRRP, VRRRRP" ..
