I have a 1999 F-150 4x4 Lariat, with power signal mirrors that have faded and now i can hardly see through them, i was told you cannot buy new glass for these, instead you have to buy the $300 mirror assy from ford... Is this true?
So is that a no, you can't get replacement glass for them? I would like to keep the signal mirrors if I can, but not for that price... I might end up having to go to just power...
Muth Mirror makes signal mirrors. they show your year truck although I know not all mirrors are the same. Check out Muth Mirror Systems, LLC and see if they might have what you need.
Muth was the supplier to Ford for those signal mirrors in 1999.
There was a bad batch that spotted so bad they were unusable.
My first set was replaced early under warranty.
My second set also went bad, Muth replaced for free when I was way out of warranty so kudo's to them but that was about six years ago.
My third set have been clear lo these many years.
I think if you look at the bottom of your mirror you may see the word "MUTH".
To answer your question, you can buy just the glass from MUTH, comes with easy install instructions and wiring(which you don't need).
Call their 1-800 number. Ask for 'Sue'. Tell her it's a '99 with factory signal mirrors.
They send new mirrors and charge your card for $219
You replace and return defective mirrors in same box.
They credit your account for the $219.
