Third attempt at putting a new stereo into my truck, no luck... like always
The radio that is in there now works fine, it just doesn't have enough power for me.
I have a brand new Pioneer, and I know it works because I've tested it in my Mom's Mercedes, my sister's Grand-am and my uncle's Tempo
I hooked up all the wires went to turn the key and nothing
I've gone through 2 different adapters for the wiring harness, none worked, and on the third attempt I spliced into the existing stereo's ground and power cable, which is not factory btw, and what do you know, still no power
So here are my questions
Are there any other cables in the cab that I can get my power from?
Can I hook the stereo up directly to the Battery?
If yes, please explain what I would need in order to do so
If no, please feel free to laugh at that other question
Has anyone else had a problem like this? How did you resolve it?
Did you ground the radio chassis to the dash? The Factory radio can ground through the chassis or the antenna cable connection. The new radio may need a seperate ground wire to work.
I'd also check the Fuse panel for the Radio. It could be blown.
I'd also check for a blown inline fuse somewhere, as you say it's not factory.
You should have 4 wires (orange, red, yellow, and black) besides the speaker wires.
Orange = illumination
Red = accessory
Yellow = battery
Black = ground
Route the Yellow to the battery. The Black to any good ground. Red to either the fuse block, after a fuse, that has power when the key is on, or to the ignition switch acc. lead with an inline fuse. The Orange is pretty much optional. If you want to control the display brightness hook this to the dash light dimmer switch. This should take care of any problems. Let us know how it turns out
Worst case scenario, run both power wires to the battery, but put a switch on the battery wire, not the memory wire so you can turn it off. I had to do that in my mustang because at the time I wasn't smart enough to figure out another way. I just haven't felt like changing it.
A 15a fuse on the red wire. And been there done that Sycostang.
just a little
My wifes caddy that she inhearted from grams(89,000 org miles, high dollar ,big block)
took out the boise and put in a cd and cass player deck wasnt cheep(400.00) got the wiring adt for it put it in turn on key works great turn off key stays on .Tear it a part to see what was wrong put back togather key on works great stays on after turning key off
so I turn radio off go in tell wife works just have to turn the radio off cause it doesnt turn off with the key and she looks at me and smiles IT WONT TILL YA OPEN THE DOOR)power stays on for 2 mins after key is off)
Haha!
That's one thing I don't like about chrysler and GM, I don't WANT the radio to stay on after I turn it off, I turned it off for a reason.
the lights staying on for a few minutes after i turn it off is ok, but I don't want a radio to remain on.
