Kind of an odd question......being from Canada, we record everything in km's, so up here milestones are 100,000km, 200,000km's etc for vehicles....and depreciation.......so what is considered "high" mileage or a price point change on your american odometers? Pretty much up here is you have 200,000km's which is approx 120,000miles your value drops drastically.......is 120miles considered high south of the border?
Thanks for any input.....
It depends on what vehicle you are looking at. A Peterbilt 389 is just broke-in at that mileage. A Chevy Nova may be on its last legs. If I was looking at a Ford 6.8L V-10 or a 7.3L Diesel Not a problem as long as the service has been done on it. Cars, com gives a difference of $1,400 Between the 74,000 miles I have on my van and a theoretical 150,000 miles.
For a F-150 when most hit a 120000 miles they dont even worry. It doesnt bother them cause they know with the proper care they will hit over 200000 miles. My dads old 92 f150 hit 225000 when we sold it and it still ran and drove. His 01 is at 170000 and has no problems. So it all depends on how it was taken care of and what the price of the truck is. If I saw say a 04 with 120000 I probably wouldnt pay more then 8500-9000.
Like the others said, depends on what your looking at. As long as it was properly maintained, you can go 200,000 miles or even 300,000! We had a couple Econoline vans with the 300 I6 with over 300,000 miles on them. We sold them to a local carpenter and i still see him driving them around today and we sold them over 3 years ago!
I personally avoid anything over 50,000 when I'm buying used...and I typically sell at the 75-80,000 miles point
For about 10 yrs I had the 100,000+ vehicles and frankly I am sick 'n tired of the repairs and fear of breakdowns.
I'm finally at a point where I can afford the nicer stuff...and boy is it nice to not have that breakdown fear
I had a 1993 Bronco go 283,000 miles with a motor change (or 2) and the original tranny...a 1994 F-150 go 127,000 till I sold it, still running at 150,000+ last time I ran across the guy (minor oil leak though)
It depends on how well you maintained it...unfortunately, most people beat the snot out of their vehicles, and then ditch them. I was unlucky enough to get several of those .
price wise though, 100,000 miles vs. 150,000 miles shouldn't honestly be much of a difference in my eyes. $500-1,000 at most
