Just wondering what your thoughts are on this. My muffler ripped out last night (well, it's still hanging there like a champ but you get the point) while reversing and backing up into a conveniently placed stump. I work out of town, (2 weeks in 1 week out) so I can't change it yet. It's ordered it should be at my door step when I get home, but that ain't for another 12 days.
Just wondering will it hurt my engine? I do a solid 200 KM a day in the bush roads. No cops, it's all private so noise is not my issue right now.
And how much will my MPG drop, if I do? Usually more air = more MPG, but from what i've read up some trucks requiring more back pressure will lose MPG.
If this helps, the truck has 200,000 KM and it's about -30c -40c here everyday.
Other than the obnoxious noise, it will be fine. I doubt it'll affect your mileage either. Typically, when one puts on a 'throaty' exhaust they lose mileage for awhile due to getting on the skinny pedal more to hear the sweet tone...
As I said though- it will be fine and won't hurt your truck. Just your ears maybe.

The cold air could cause a problem getting to the hot valves after a shutdown, except you still have most of the exhaust pipe and the catalytic converters, so there shouldn't be a problem. By the time the exhaust system is cold, the valves are cool enough to not matter.
