Okay, have a question. I have 2005 F350 w/integrated trailer brake and additional switches. I am wanting to install an inverted under the hood and run wire to a weather proof plug on the inside of my bed. I seen this at truck show in Louisville. What I am wandering is if I run the connection from battery to my extra switch in the dash to turn it on and off is one of them rated enough to do that? I think my inverter is 100amp.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I basically use my inverter for drills and saws and extra lights around the farm fencing or working on odd stuff and hate always having to raise hood, connect inverter and doing the reverse to drive 100 yards and repeat....
I assume you are referring to the 4 upfitter switches labeled aux 1, 2, 3, & 4. The #4 switch is rated for 10A and the other 3 are rated for 30A each, so I think you'll need a separate switch for your inverter. That is, unless I'm all wrong.
The upfitter switches are already relayed and fused. # 1 and 2 are 30 amp, 3 and 4 are 10 amp. You could easily use # 3 or 4 to turn on a larger relay. However, i have to say a 100amp inverter? A typical 110 volt curcuit is 15 or 20 amps, if you have 2 15s that would be 30. Hope you have some #2 or heavier cables to that inverter from the batteries, run the 110 to the back of the truck. You need the relays on the #2 cables, thats a serious relay?
Due to lack of space under the hood, I mounted my 2000watt inverter under the back seat. Used 0 welding cable to run under the truck up to the batteries. The inverter has it's own on/off switch, but I also installed a battery cut off switch right next to the inverter. The positive lead, is fused at the battery with a 250 amp fuse.
I haven't installed a weather proof outlet in the bed yet. Normally I just plug in an extension cord for running saws, drills, and a coffee pot ;-)
Man I never thought of a disconnect switch. We have them install OEM in our semi trucks right next to drivers seat to disconnect batteries.
Great idea. I seen a ford at Louisville Truck show that was setup as a contractor truck. It wasn't available for purchase, just had lots of ideas for feedback I guess. It had a weatherproof cover in the bed for 110 and also had a retractable extension cord in bottom left corner of bed below the tail lights.
