I've spent the day trying to locate a set (2) of locking gas caps that are keyed alike. No luck! I've seen sets before made by Stant. I tried all the standard parts houses ( Pep Boys, Kragen, etc. ) Even on line no one lists sets. LMC, Rock Auto, Amazon and Napa........no joy. Stant does not list any sets nor do they sell on line. I need a new cap and I'm really sick of having different keys for each of my dual tanks.
Any sugestions boys?

I tried the same thing a number of years ago... No luck. Ended up keeping the two different keyed ones. .... I would also like to find two the same! Sorry I couldn't help!

Aftermarket gas caps don't offer two caps keyed alike AFAIK.

Only factory locking gas caps do, like on my '78 F150.

 

The original Ford/Motorcraft locking fuel cap sets used with dual fuel tanks were keyed alike.

These sets were not available with one in-cab tank, one fuel tank on the drivers side of the bed.

Available only for the dual tanks mounted on the drivers side of the bed.

The sets came with two keyed alike keys.

The sources I listed are the only ones that have any.

Make SURE if buying any of these, that both caps and the keys are in the box.

Make SURE the keys fit BOTH the caps!

 

Same here,best thing to do is get one of those color deal things that fit over the gas key and paint the cap the same color.

 

I got 2 that are keyed alike from Napa. Ask them next time you are there. They sell 2 cap packages.

 

Try taking your two caps to a locksmith, and see if he can make one key that will fit both caps.

 

Stant also makes a keyed alike two cap set.

These are not very well made though and they have been known to fail California Smog Tests, brand new out of the package. Ask me how I know... []

 

I would guess most gas cap keys have double sided keys (so you can insert it either way). If you have two gas caps that share the same type of key, you could have a locksmith put two different carving patterns on one key. Insert it one way for one lock, the other way for the other lock.

that's assuming the tumbler doesn't engage both sides of the key at the same time (unlikely)

Yep. I have a set of new unkeyed caps just for the test. I use my original Motorcraft locking caps(1 key) with the cracked gaskets the other 729 days.

 

I got a pair keyed alike off of ebay. The ones I got are made really well. They are a German made part. They also don't lock as soon as you install them, so you can leave them unlocked if you like. I think the ebay seller was this guy. I just asked him if I could get 2 keyed the same.

Thats cool what NumberDummy said. I didn't realize that you could get Mororcraft locking caps.

 

Can't be any worse than the ones I bought for my truck... Damn things are made out of plastic... Even the tabs that lock into the filler neck are plastic... I've already had to replace one of them after I dropped one and it fell apart when it hit the ground... The only metal on these caps are the big round cover pieces... Can't remember the manufacturer name off the top of my head but I think it's Motormite... Couldn't find any Stant's around here locally that would fit right for some odd reason...

 

I am having the same problem.
I have a locking Metal Gas Cap on the AUX tank.
I have a plastic NON-Lockng on the MAIN tank (Which doesn't work,Has Huge hole in it,and it sucks because Super Camper Special tanks are bigger,so you have to get one out of another Super Camper Special.
I want Metal High Quality Keyed alike caps.
The ones I want are really big and the top is metal and its huge.
