Replacement carpeting, electric window conversion.
My GF HATES my truck! It doesn't have any of the nicies her Explorer has. My F350 is just a work truck that I've been upgrading for power & towing and haven't spent a whole lot on the interior. I have the standard cloth manual bench seat, black rubber floor mat and manual windows. I can get a split electric seat around here for $200 to upgrade the bench. Has anyone purchased aftermarket replacement carpet? I've checked several online sources and they're all about the same price. Anyone have a provider preference?
Also, has anyone done a conversion from manual windows to electric? Can JY parts be used or would I have to go aftermarket?
You can watch ebay for some carpet, but I prefer the vinyl. I had to special order my XLT with vinyl floors because I didn't want to have to deal with the carpet.
The experiences I've had with aftermarket power windows have been less than stellar. They work for a while, but always seem to develop problems after a year.

The reason I'm wanting carpet is my GF. I prefer the vinyl myself, especially with two Labs that go with me. Anyway she's 5' 1/2" and her feet barely touch the floor and the extra mats to catch the snow and mud slide around so she doesn't feel stable. That's another reason I want to put in electric seats hoping it will let her lower the seat some. She refuses to let me build her a small foot stool to rest her feet on - she thinks folks are going to laugh at her.
Dynamat, carpeting and an electric seat are on my list soon. She wants me to trade my '01 in on a newer with an auto and all the goodies. I can't see paying that much, especially after all the work I've done to make it tow like it does. My DP Tuner from Clay is going in tomorrow. Most of my cash has gone into powertrain mods, guess it's time to work on the comfort! I'm going to hit the salvage yards to see how the electric units are installed and if I can retrofit mine......
Buy her one of those little pillows that supports your lower back. It will make her sit farther forward in the seat, which means her feet will hit the floor. Then she can just tell everyone that your big ugly truck has uncomfortable seats.
You could also look into trimming the bottom part of the foam on the seat cushion so she sits just a tad lower.
Chayes, I have a solution for you, don't log off, I am going to take a picture of the step stool that I built for my 5' 1/2" wife to rest her feet on.
Standby.....................
I also started out with an XL and have upgraded it. I just wanted to say that I went to power seats from a junkyard and only the driver side is power. My five foot two wife still complains that her feet dont touch. I haven't went to power windows yet because I aint found a good enough deal in the junkyards yet.
I upgraded an 01 regular cab to power windows. How hard it is depends on how much wiring Ford put in your truck at the factory. If it was as "gutted" as mine, you will need to make a new harness for everything inside the cab and doors.
The factory harness is located deep in the dash, so to use a stock harness from a junkyard, you will need to find a cab that not only has the harness intact, but also has all the dash parts removed so you can get to it. I chose to make up my own harness and fish it through just behind the dash supports (closest to the seat, rather than the firewall) and splice it to shorter pieces of harness that I salvaged from doors.
I did not use the delay and one-touch-down functions. I wired it through a relay that took power from the stock circuit breaker (the breaker and wiring into the cab was installed in my truck) and energized the relay in "key on" and "accessory" by tapping into the wire that energizes the windshield wiper relays. I had to make minor changes in the driver's door wiring in order to do this. I left the factory door latch sensor wiring intact, and did not use the courtesy light in the door. I did use the power mirror wiring, and ran wires for heat, running light, and turn signal out to the mirror plug near the door speaker.
I used an aftermarket power door lock kit, and energized it from the factory PDL switches. I tapped the factory fuse and wiring which was installed.
The power supply wires end in a plug to the right of the steering column. I am not sure if it is intstalled on all trucks. Mine had cruise control and air conditioning, but not PW or PDL.
I bought the window regulators with motors new off Ebay for less than $150. Most everything else came from a local junkyard for less than $150. I had to buy wire and splicing materials.
BTW whenever soldering stock Ford wires, you have to use a good quality flux in order to get even flux-core solder to stick! I used some from an electronic supply, which also supplied the heavy-duty heat shrink tubing to insulate the splices. I had the junkyard cut the door wiring off as far inside the cab pillar as far as possible, and did my splicing inside the pillar. You can also do it inside the door by making the new harness longer. Just don't splice it where it will flex when the door is opened and closed. Also make sure nothing interferes with the window as it goes up and down.
This is a fairly involved project, but very doable to someone who tinkers with auto electrical systems and does pretty basic mechanical stuff.
I thought my wife was the only one who complained about her feet not touching the floor. It seems there a is a need for this step thing. Thats a nice one kwik.
Morning everyone, I purchase the mold-carpet from LMC, took it out of the box and let it rest( molded carpet needs this) then installed it and love it. It came with the heavy padded back, foot dimmer switch hole, I had to cut out a 4X4 shift hole. I bought the spray aheasive and it work great. Mine is not a work truck so I went with carpet.
