Time for NEW tires

OK, I have heard that you should only put ST tires on your campers, because they are designed to handle the twisting of the sidewall better then LT tires, is this correct.

Also I have goodyear marations on now(replacing do to dry riot) and have not had any issues with them, so do I uses them again or is there a better tire. 205/75 -15

The Goodyear's are now made in China.(Or so I have heard) I also think that they are overpriced....but that's just me. Check with an independent tire dealer in your area and get a US manufactured tire. Yes, I would stick with ST tires. My 2 cents worth.

Yeah get tires rated for trailers.

You would be amazed at how much a tire can be twisted when you do tight parking lot turns. I have seen my tires look like a potato chip or saddle. You really don't want to leave them twisted while parked either.

The other thing is trailer tires help minimize sway and wobble.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

I've read good reports on Maxxis trailer tires (M8008 ST Radial )

though I've not used them nor do I know if they're made in the USA.

I just installed 4 Carlisle Sport Trail STs. They are made in the USA, at least that's what it says on the sidewall.

It appears that Maxxis tires are not Made in the USA. Here's the response I received directly from them this weekend:

Hi Russell. Thank you for contacting Maxxis International. Our M8008 ST Radial is manufactured in our state-of-the-art facility in Thailand. We receieve a lot of positive feedback from users who switch to our brand. If you have any further questions, please contact us again through the Web site. Sincerely, Scott Perkins, Maxxis.

For even more opinions on trailer tires, check out RV.Net/Forum - but generally you will hear to stick with ST tires. A lot of folks on those boards concerned about non-US made tires, but a lot seems to depend upon what size you are looking for, if that is a concern.

Maxxis trailer tires are really good, they seem to be the best foreign tires you an get, if I remeber right the only major tires still made in the states is Cooper and its divisions.

Actually, in the Toy Hauler Forum on RV.net most of the guys recommend Michelin XPS rib RV tires which are LT tires.

...but all those are for "driven" RV's, NOT travel trailers/5th wheels.

I sent a question to michelin through their website to see if they recommend their XPS Rib tires for Toy Hauler trailers and here is their response:

Dear Russell,
Thank you for your email. We welcome the opportunity to serve you.
If your toy hauler trailer or travel trailer do not require ST (special trailer tires) the Michelin XPS Rib tire would be an excellent replacement tire.
The Michelin XPS Rib is the only 16" highway tread design Michelin makes that has an all-steel casing for added strength and durability.
It is our goal to ensure that your issue has been resolved or your question answered to your satisfaction. If we can assist you further, please respond to this email or call us at 1-800-847-3435 (toll free) between 8:00AM and 8:00PM Eastern Time Monday through Friday or between 9:00AM and 5:00PM Eastern Time on Saturday.
Sincerely,
Colesta

Consumer Care Department
PS: It's important that you get all the safety-related materials that come with the purchase of new Michelin passenger and light truck tires. If you did not receive a warranty book, you can download one at michelinman.com/warranty. If you did not register your tires, please take a moment to do so at michelinman.com/tire-registration. Registering your tires is easy and takes just a minute.

So are ST tires 'required'?

That would be answered best by the trailer manufacturer.
