My fellow has a ‘79 Bronco (hos dad bought it brand new, he bought it from his mom when his dad passed away in ‘96). Rag joint is busted, best I can tell. Adding to the problem, there are sparks flying around the steering column. This is his primary means of transportation. We know enough to follow these threads but have a mechanic who helps us complete repairs. I’m attaching a pic of the steering column. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Might be a failing or damaged ground jumper that bridges the gap around the rag joint? Not all use them. I know I've replaced mine's rag joint with a Dorman part and I doun't recall the jumper, but it was a long time ago and mine is on a '77 F-150.
You might garner more definitive responses with a new thread titled something like "1979 Bronco Rag Joint question" .... this is an old thread. I know it's on topic, but a newer thread posting date might help is all.
