Tailgate Blues

Anybody know how to open the tailgate when the handle don't work?

My old '82, took a flat tip screwdriver, and voila, it opened.

This new style with the striker just like a door has me stumped

Take the cover off of the back of the tailgate. Then using two pairs of pliers pull the bars that actuate the tailgate realese mechanisms together. To fix the whole problem, you will have to get some parts.
