hi, ive got a 91 eddie baure with a 351 windsor. its fuel injected. the motor starts right up. when ever i press hard on the gas its like the motor shuts right down. if you let back off the gasyou can hear the motor run again and the check engine comes on. im stumped. anybody have any idea what would cause this. thanks, dwight
yes. my codes are 83/27/33/24 and 42. i dont have a guide to help with the codes. i dont think its the fuel pump. it seems like a fuel pressure problem. ive got a crack in my smog pump but i dont think its that. thanks for the reply.
24: ACT sensor out of self test range 0.3 to 3.7 volts.
27: ? (helpful, huh?)
33: EGR valve opening not detected.
42: HEGO sensor circuit indicates system rich (right side).
83: EGR Control solenoid circuit failure.
High speed electro-drive fan circuit failure.
Low speed fuel pump relay circuit open.
From first glance, it sounds like your EGR valve could just be bad and causing a bit of problems. I'd also recommend resetting all of the codes (disconnect the battery for a few), then drive, and check again. That'll bring up codes that are a problem, and not just a random fluke.
Replacing just the egr probably wont cure the egr codes as the control selinoid itself has a failure code, i.e. the system isnt seeing signal on both sides of the circuit. The Air Charge Temperature sensor has an indication that it is out of spec which may be a part of the problem.
if thats the solenoid on top of the egr valve ive changed that. it didnt help, so im leaning towards something diffrent. how about the fuel pressure regulator or map sensor? thanks for the help, dwight
The sensor is ontop of the EGR valve, the selinoid is on the driver's side of the engine near the coil. It looks like a valve with vacuum lines and a little "hat" on it.
yup, thats the one. i just pushed in the egr diapham and it goes up and down so i think its the egr or the solenoid. the truck does seem to back fire threw the breather when you step hard on the gas. if i was already a bald man id pull the rest or my hair out! thanks, dwight
The O2 sensor could be but the computer reverts to a baseline for the O2 readings if it determines the O2 is giving confusing signals. I would test the voltage change on the throttle position sensor using a multimeter back probing the wiring harness to see if you have a consistant change in voltage from closed to open. Fordfuelinjection describes the procedure quite well and even provides the voltage ranges for the sensor as a reference. Have you replace the ACT, and tested after the change?
