Hi, I'm putting this on here so you can learn from my stupidity. Yesterday I changed the rear hub seal following the excellent thread on here and the Haynes manual. After I had the new seal in the hub and everything lubed I found I couldn't get the hub and seal back on the spindal. I tried several times but it just wouldn't go. so, wrong seal, right? Well after a lot of ying and yang with the parts guy at the Ford dealer he finally was smart enough to go ask a real mechanic what was up. Here's the deal, when the seal came out it left half on the spindal. It was really hard to tell. I had wiped and lubed the spindal but not noticed. I knew old seal looked different from the new one I installed but figured that was a design improvement. Once the mehanic gave me a clue I went home and could tell right away he was right. I'll add a pic. Hope this saves someone some time and trouble. The piece on the left stayed on the spindal. And, now I know and so do you.
Wow, thanks for the info. I had this same problem on saturday and came across this that night. Sunday morning went to look and sure enough it was stuck on there. Thanks again and reps to you.
