i just picked up a 99 f350 dually with esof on it and I diagnosed to different issues with my front hubs. the right side hub will not hold vac and if I blow into the line it hisses down in the hub; the left side holds vac but has play in it and it grinds on hard left turns. I have checked all ball joints u joints and all the vac lines they are solid. I also serviced both locking units they are solid also.
I went to rockauto.com found hubs for it, but are there any special seals I need additionally when installing the new hubs? Do I have to replace the right side hub or can I just replace the seals to keep it from leaking? I called there but the guy couldn't tell me anything other than what hubs to select, he had no idea if I needed any other parts.
i did find a great thread on here with step by step on how to replace seems very easy.

Are you looking to keep the ESOF system or are you going to go with a manual hub like a Warn, If you hear hissing it is either your hub or the big vacuum seal in the steering knuckle, you wont know until you take it apart..
Just had to replace the u-joints and vacuum seal on my 2000 250 this past weekend. It is a $50 part at the dealer, might as well get a new axle dust cover as well. You will need to pull the hub to get to the seal, if u-joint and ball joint is OK it should be a pretty quick replacement. One thing that tripped me up, the plastic disk with grooves goes against the vacuum seal, just incase yours is not right when you pull it apart. I had no vacuum seal on mine and they had the plastic washer with grooves in the hub, so I tried putting it back together the same way and couldn't get the c-clip to go back in till it was discovered it was in the wrong place. Only the two round washers and the plastic trapezoid looking thrust washers should be in the hub.
Is it an OEM hub? I think it might come with the yellow o-ring but I'm not sure. There's plenty to be had regarding all of the ESOF issues/rebuild/repairs for our generation. To get you started:
If you search for ball joint replacement it will have everything you never wanted to know about hub replacement. There's a few o-rings/seals that you need to get to ensure a good vacuum seal for proper ESOF operation. I have been through 3 repairs and have given up. Most recommend replacing these seals every time you take things apart to get to the hub. You risk a lot for getting them to reseal based on the labor required (time or $$$) for a seal that costs anywhere from $2 to $40. If you are buying OEM I recommend Google-ing for the Dana/Spicer parts. They are the same thing but less expensive (no dealer markup to call them Ford parts). Dana is the is the manufacturer of our front axle, yours I believe is a Dana 50.
