Does anyone have a link that will show me how to disassemble a front hub so I can replace the vacuum seal. The left front ESOF hub will not hold a vacuum. I checked directly with a vacuum pump. The right one will lock. I didn't see anything in the Tech folder that was what I was after. This is new territory for me--I have cleaned and lubed the hubs but have not adventured to this level
Thanks
So is it the yellow o ring which is the source of the vacuum failure? If so, is there a parts kit to replace the washers and o ring or ??? My dealer was telling me something like $750

Yes, I bought just the yellow seal, it was 5-6 years ago and it may have had the black seal for the ESOF hub also. I want to say it was $20 or so. The link has the kit part number(s).

Rob answered your question, but Bob (Guzzle) is also a great resource and has answered my questions many times before I ordered from him (Bob is also Diesel O-Rings: DieselOrings ).
Well- just got a message back from Bob. They changed the hub assembly in 05 to where the seal has to be pressed in with a special tool. Wonder how challenging that is?

I'm guessing he means 05 F250/350, because I did my 05 Excursion and all of the parts looked like the ones in his tutorial.
Unless you swapped to the 05+ axles you most likely have the 99-04 stuff.
1975stroppebaja has another solid tech page in the tech folder, all part numbers displayed so you can walk into the local Ford dealer and pick them up.

Common point of confusion with the '05 EX, use the same parts as an '04 EX/SD, the EX didn't change in '05 like the SD pickups did.
I'm assuming you have to take it off the truck to work on it??
Yes, follow Guzzles step by step and you shouldn't have any issues. I recall you need a thin wall 13/16 socket to get the hub off. Once the hub is off, there is an axle seal that needs to be driven on but that doesn't affect the ESOF hubs. I only changed the yellow o ring and the smaller black o rings on both sides. I was in the garage earlier and found the pn I used, F81Z 4A322 AA. That should be the yellow seal, order 2.

Sent Bob at Guzzles an email. Service write up on needle bearings service said yellow o ring most common cause of vacuum leak in hubs. Grampy-Jim "Certified Ford Master Tech" on same page says its the knuckle seal. I am asking Jim which is most common for him--one looks like a minor PIA, the other looks more like a major PIA. Either way, looks like a PIA.
