I guess the bushings are shot. how do i take the pins out of the hinge? do i have to take the door off? the door is nearly catching the front fender near the bottom
I think i just need bushings. I was at the help parts, even though i hate buying crap from china especially for my ford, and the pins and bushings that dont even look like mine cost nine bucks, so 40 bucks for 8 bushings dont seem right. The pin in my door seems to have a cap on top, no point, and the head at the bottom. unlike the HELP pin with a head and point.
To remove the old pins cut them in the middle and tap them out. Some grinding may be required. Then tap out the old bushings. Install new bushings, grease, slide new pin and clip in. I got 4 pin/bushing kits but apparently the top hinges are different so only used two. Didn't bother looking for a new set for the top as my uppers are solid.
For anyone else with this problem, quick and easy way to see if hinge pins/bushings are worn is to open door, grab bottom and lift. If you feel play and can move the door independantly of the truck, you've found your problem.
Ford does NOT sell pins and bushings. ( there were no bushings from the factory, just pins and the hinge) They are a non servicable part. they will how ever sell you the hinge for 50 a piece though. Napa will sell you a help piece as well. this is the only company i have seen to sell pins and bushings, to service these hinges like a chevy does

This is what I was going to recommend too.If the door has play and you can move it up and down, then door pins are more than likely worn.
Those pins and small metal bushings will work. It's a part that just wears.

what we sell at our dealership and what i just installed on my 86
be prepared to put a lot of new fasteners on the truck .most of mine broke when taking fender off
I bought a pin bushing kit from NAPA, going to try when rain stops, Was wondering the order in which you install the pin, 2 bushings, and retaining clip, going to leave the door on i hope
i left door on.took fender off(not fun-lots of small hidden stuff).did top hinge first -left door latched and shut.cut and pounded out pin and bushing.make sure the hinge part where the bushings go aren't egg shaped.the backing plate on cowl can be tricky-helps to have an extra set of hands(may fall in cowl a bit.will have the need to drink alot of beer after installing fender back on etc.

I was looking at the hinges /pins again and realized you must take the door off. Because the bushings are in between the hinges. It woould be impossible to slide the lipped bushing in between the two hinges.
What is the proper order to install these new china pin/ bushing sets? THey come with 1 pin, 2 lipped bushings, and 1 reaining clip.
