95 F150 STRAIGHT 6 HIGH IDLE HARD SHIFT

I just picked up this 1995 Ford F-150 inline 6 Auto EFI. It has a little less than 74k miles on it. When I picked it up it ran ok had a little hesitation a couple times after driving for a little while at slower speeds and a few stop lights. Decided to just go for it and make the purchase. Upon driving back home (30-40 miles) it drove great at speed (45) some fluctuation in the speedometer (no tach) and decent power accelerating to (55) not flooring it.

Hit a light after driving for about 10 minutes, went to accelerate from light and it stumbled and died. I pulled to the side, turned the key and started right back up, pressed the gas in park slightly and it wanted to die so I fluttered the peddle a little until holding it at a point where it was running and stumbling. Black smoke coming out the exhaust. After 30 seconds of this it stopped exhaust got clean and then I was able to drive fine again. Happened once more after that until i got home.

Changed the Plugs(gapped to what the hood told me), Battery Terminals, Distributor Cap, Rotor Kit, New oil(10W30 suggested by them, feel like i should have gotten 5w) and filter and Plug New Wires.

When I pulled the plugs they were dry/grey on the electrodes.

The Plugs were really rusted pretty bad but by no mean stuck in or hard to get out. The gap was .065 and the electrodes had an angle.(can get picture and do not look like the motorcraft i bought and that the manual stated) Got everything from advanced. After changing the above and cleaning the throttle body out(spray and soft bristle brush which didnt do anything so much build up)

Started the Truck and Check Engine Light came on and the truck started to idle high and shift into gear hard and shift hard through gears 1-2. So I thought Vac lines and checked them all and replaced just about all of them thinking that a leak was causing the problem. Unplugging the IAC brings the idle down wont die or stall. (NO TAC)

Back to Advanced to get a new IAC and it didnt change a thing. So returned that, returned the plug wires, they didnt feel like they were even snapping on the original ones look brand new. Ordered a new throttle body, installed that and nothing.

Filled up full on gas two times so far.

When I drained the oil it looked fine, dark but not black, clean.

Doesnt get hot, or overheat.

Coming from the water pump is a hose that goes to some type of diverter that has a partially exposed filter that is blowing out what i would think would be excessive amounts of air(can get picture).

Exhaust seems to have quite a bit of force coming out the back.

Blinkers intermittently working. Stuck in traffic waiting for accident went to put blinkers on and they didnt work. After I managed my detour and avoided a stall and drove for a couple minutes i tried the blinkers again and they worked.

The truck is in really really great condition. Looks pretty much new except sitting in a barn somewhere for a while.

--------------------------------------------------------

Ran the codes today after work(10-1-15)

KOEO

122 122 122 122

KOER

998 122 998 122

----------------------------------------------

Any ideas? Injectors? TPS? Diverter? PCM? Seems electrical at this point

If I remember correctly code 122 is you TPS. Code 998 is basicly a limp mode that could be caused by the bad TPS.

Thanks for response. That's kind of what I was leaning toward. Hope it's that simple.

Mine should probably be changed as well. But it will have to wait until after the weekend. Gator game tomorrow! Have to fill up on gas again will pour in some cleaner. Anyone have a suggestion on what to use. I use seafoam in my boats often and mower occasionally.

Next steps are going to be pull the plugs again and check them more than likely buy a new set to drop in. New TPS hope issue is solved might get a new EGR also. Seems like when i pulled the hoses today it upped in idle then when i covered it up it dropped lower than when attached. So that could be a possible cause. Find out soon...

Maybe ill be able to rebuild my first car/truck engine. Hope not, I wouldnt mind but my money would.

Don't hold your breath waiting for an answer. He hasn't posted here in almost five years.

The first step to fix yours is to read the codes. That will point you towards the problem. Without the codes all you can do is buy and install parts hoping you get lucky.

Did you change the TPS harness all the way back to the PCM? Have you checked those circuits for continuity?
