Whats a DPFE sensor
My son has a 98 F-150 4x4. 137,000 miles.
Engine light on,parts house read trouble codes,
P1405 "DPFE sensor up stream hose off or plugged"
Also p0171 & p0174 too lean bank one and two respectively.
Not sure what DPFE is and where to start.
Would appreciate any help!!

Welcome to the forums 
It measures the egr flow to tell the PCM whether the egr system is working properly or not. They are known to fail.
Check the PCV hose assembly for cracks, Especially behind the intake in the elbow. Also a dirty MAF will cause the lean on both banks codes.

DPFE stands for Delta (or Differential, depends which book you're reading) Pressure Feedback EGR sensor.
This picture is from a Windstar but the sensor should look the same.

Follow the EGR tube from the driver's side exhaust manifold up to the EGR valve. Off the tube there are 2 hoses. The DPFE is at the top of the hoses.
