Replacing the harness was your only option. I don't like the Quarter mod, just spend the 13 bucks from ford and get the UVCH clips...

As for the broken peice... I would find it. It's going to be in your heads if not.

You can pull the rocker arms and pushrods and get a lot of tools down in there....

Just remember to put THAT cylinder at BDC before you reinstall the rockerarms/pushods and allow the lifter to relax before cranking the motor over.

I would pour a quart or two of oil in the hole that the plastic piece fell into then drain the oil. (do not crank). That may flush it down far enough to come down in the pan and come out when you drain it.

If you don't get it out that way I might possibly try Maintain's way although his way should probably be done befor you flush it.

Nevertheless I wouldn't worry too much about it anf run it, just keep an eye on things for awhile and change your oil often, it will come out soon enough.

I know I'm going to get some differing opinions on this one, but I talked with a T444E technician that works on district buses and trash trucks etc, and he said that he just leaves the little plastic pieces when they break, as they *should* flush out. I didn't know what to think, but I broke most of mine, and I understand they shouldn't be loose in the upper heads, but I haven't had any problems

Glad I read your post. I just did my UVCH (drivers side) first time I've "looked under the covers". Wow looks like you could loose a LOTA Stuff down them holes. Specially slippery little pieces of plastic!!!
So what I did was got me some white very clean shop rags and lined the area under the harness before i started messing with it. I didn't break any thing but did loose grip of the Ford Clip thingy, but it fell on the white cloth-- easy to find and recover. What a difference the white contrast makes.
Now I'll do the passenger side this weekend. Any tips?? Looks crowded on that side!
