Guys I was doing the up-pipes, 38R install and decided to do the .50 mod while i was in there. I broke the harness clip where the quarter slides into. I have a feeling this is going to cost me more than .50 now. It will not lock into place now and a piece of the plastic about a 1/4 inch long fell into my oil galley hole where the pushrods go through. Where to proceed from here guys, I feel sick now and do not know what to do? Also is the little white wires going into the glow plugs hard to remove?
Can you get a "zip tye" around the connector? I've heard of other guys doing that. Someone else will chime in soon about the other issues. I would think that you wouldn't want the plastic peice to be left in the galley. JMO.
I will look into the zipty. The plastic piece is gone and there is no way to get at it without extensive surgery like tearing the motor apart i think. Definately sweating this one. Can the zipty take the heat?
what about maybe draining the oil, i don't think it "the plastic piece" would drain out but maybe you could get a better look for it???????
Do you mean pull the oil pan? Where can it go if it falls down in the hole it fell into? If it goes into the pan from there then maybe it will drain out with the oil. I am sure the oil pickup has a strainer of some sorts? Also I cannot get the zipty through the backside of the valvecover gasket part of the connector.
If you broke part of the connector clip, best solution would be to replace the harness (in my opinion). The two harnesses I got from my Intl dealer because they were the only ones open at 11pm on sunday night. If you dropped some of those zip ties that hold the wires togther into the heads, I did the same thing as mine were really brittle and snapped off. Haven't had a lick of trouble, however, be careful about how the glow plug wires are routed, some have had trouble with it rubbing the pushrod and shorting. Oh, and the connectors on the glow plugs just need a little tug and they come off...
The glowplug wires look tight in there and I cant see how they come off. I did a search on how to remove the glowplugs but no luck. It is the white wires that go straight down next to the rocker assy isnt it?
No,The valve cover gasket can be reused but be sure to check the connection points. IF they look discolored or scorched they will need to be replaced. Trust me i learned this the hard way.
Update! New harness is in now. P/N F81Z*9D930*AB, 89.00. I didnt get the new valve cover gasket as the old one looked very good to me and never had a problem with it. while I was in there I checked all my glow plugs and they ohmed out to between .9 - 1.4 ohms so all good still. My mistake which caused this was that I tried to install the quarter before connecting the connector because I didnt watch: video YouTube - 2001 F350 7.3L Turbo Diesel, UVCH that Darren had posted on https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-shakes-3.html Now I am only concerned about the plastic piece that I broke off and lost inside the motor.
