What's the '50c' mod?!

I've searched for it and gone through the common mods thread but can't find it. I found a hundred places where it was mentioned and people were told to do it but I can't find anything that tells me what it is or what it does.

Mod made famous by Chris (F350-6).
Keeps clips on UVCH tight.

Picture says it all. You have to grind a little off the the top part of the quarter to get it to fit though. Good deal since ford charges around $10 for the clips that do the same thing.

Thanks guys (repped ya Mueckster), pics are worth a thousand words! I guess this is only something you do if there's a reason to be under the valve cover anyway? Or is it important enough to pull them just to do this mod?

Mine weren't giving me trouble, but I did it when I was replacing my injectors and glow plugs. I also retorqued the rocker arms.

120 in-lbs/10 ft-lbs for the injector hold down bolts and 20 ft-lbs for the rocker arms.

Shade, you'll end up doing it eventually out of need, but the need may arise when you're in the middle of nowhere and you have to limp back home, if it even runs...so, my advice is...go ahead and make plans to do the mod on your schedule, so you don't have to in the middle of the woods somewhere...

Happened to Me 150k .. Had to limp back home... and drive it on 5 cyl for about 2 weeks before I could pull the covers off...

Its kinda hard to get that quarter in there.. specially the first 5 times you drop it in the valves... agghh

It was even harder for me to grind the head off that quarter... hahaha

I've never bothered worrying about the torque on the glow plugs, even on the trucks I've changed. Just tightened them up. But to answer your question, Ford says torque to 14 ft/lbs
