The ZF is a rear loaded transmission and therefore is a difficult rebuild. It also takes special tools to hold it all together for assembly, though with difficulty can be accomplished without.
I believe the fork and syncros are what needs to be replaced, but I do not know for certain.
Try letting the clutch out a little as you put it in reverse. (just enough to turn the shafts slowly as you try.)
I guess I can call around some transmission shops and get quotes...I will try what you said to see if it helps. I guess until then I got to shut her down or hope it gets into reverse...The transmission is SUPPOSE to be rebuilt allready, but apparently nothing was done with reverse.
Here not to long ago someone posted a link to the ZF.com diagnostics pdf, Unfortunately I didn't save it and now cannot find it.
It's also someplace on zf.com, I can't find it.
Before you go to the trouble of pulling the transmission, here are a couple of things to check.
Check the condition of the pin and plastic bushing on the clutch pedal where the clutch master cylinder attaches. If the bushing is worn out and has been that way for awhile, the pin is probably shot as well. This creates a lot of excess free travel, which means your slave cylinder does not have as much stroke as it should. This means that the clutch is not fully disengaging, which means it is hard to get into gear.
The reason you notice it in reverse before the forward gears is because you are trying to turn the drive shaft backwards.
